News in Brief – April 2014

On the 31st of March we bid farewell to Ms. Sunita Toppo, better known as Sister Sunita among the boys.  She joined here as a teacher  in 1987 and made Kishor Nagar her home. She was teaching mainly in the primary section and she was not only a teacher but also a mother for the small children, caring for them in many ways. She knew all the boys by name. After serving the institution for 27 years she decided to go back to her village and therefore she offered her resignation. She was given a very touching farewell by all the students.

On the 3rd of April the new children came and took admission. They came with their guardians and their names were duly recorded in the admission register. 105 children have taken admission. Among them 32 are orphans (no parents), 55 have only one parent alive while 18 of them have both their parents alive, but the condition of the family is miserable.

A major job was the harvesting of the wheat crop. Even though we had sown wheat in many fields, the yield was less than previous years as we did not have enough manure for all the fields. The yield being less the actual harvesting and threshing did not take a long time. The yield of potato crop was not very good either but this was due to the adverse weather conditions in the month of January and there was a crop failure in the whole region. Fortunately we had enough vegetables.

A few hands are enough to handle the threshing.
