On the 5th and 6th of October the Fr. Van Bortel Memorial Munna Football Tournament was organised at Kishor Nagar for the 4th time. The tournament itself has a longer history but since the death of Fr. Van Bortel the name was changed to make it a Memorial tournament.
For the finals day the boys made a dedication to Fr. Van Bortel on the playing field.
13 teams participated :
– Green Garden – A, B and C
– Kishor Nagar – A, B and C
– Nirmala School Samlong
– Prabhat Tara Dhurwa
– Raja Ulhatu – B
– Sister Immaculate Plandu
– St. Joseph’s Patrachauli
– St. Joseph’s Raja Ulhatu – A
– St. Michael Khunti
On Saturday the teams were divided in 4 pools. In each pool all the teams had to play against each other on the 3 fields next to the Polytechnic and the main playing field at Kishor Nagar. All the boys gave the best of themselves and after 15 matches the 4 winning teams were announced.
On Sunday the first semi-final was played between St. Michael School Khunti and Kishor Nagar’s A team. You can guess which team received the loudest cheers. After a tie the decision had to be made with penalties. Kishor Nagar A Team won and was the first team selected for the final.
The second semi-final was played between Prabhat Tara Dhurwa and Raja Ulhatu. Prabhat Tara Dhurwas showed themselves too strong for Raja Ulhatu and the second finalist was known.
After lunch and some heavy rains the match between Kishor Nagar and Prabhat Tara Dhurwa could start. Prabhat Tara Dhurwa was the strong favourite but Kishor Nagar made it a tough match before their homecrowd. In the end it was Prabhat Tara Dhurwa who took the winners Shield home for the 4th time in a row.
