Dear Friends,
Greetings from the Kishor Nagar family. As we have entered the year 2016 we feel very grateful for all the support we have received in the year that has passed and we look forward with hope to the days to come.
We express our sincere gratitude to all our benefactors, who have made it possible for us to complete substantial repairs and renovation works. At the same time new initiatives in the field of academics as well as extra-curricular activities were also started.
Renovation of physical structures or building up of new structures is relatively easy tasks. What is more challenging and more important is the “building up of the institution” which aims at helping the disadvantaged children to grow up into good human beings who can find their place in society and live with dignity. This was the vision and inspiration of Fr. Victor Van Bortel. In the fast changing environment in which we live it is our constant endeavour to remain faithful to this inspiration while at the same time responding creatively to the new challenges which affect our life and the institution.
Kishor Nagar is not a hostel, it is a home, a place where children find a family bond. Visitors, local as well as from outside, are amazed at the good family spirit among the boys. They live together, work together, play together and respect one another. Coming in contact with them one can feel their joy of living.
Kishor Nagar has over the years grown into a school, as the second aim is to give the children a solid basic education. But it is a school with a difference as it caters for underprivileged children. These children face a disadvantage right from their childhood and therefore they need special care, which only quality education in terms of a holistic approach can give them. And that is why we are placing much emphasis on overall development of the total personality of the children.
The ultimate goal is to equip the boys with the all skills required to stand on their own feet when they pass out from KN. In the process of doing various jobs to keep the institution going the boys learn many practical skills, but -this non-formal learning by doing is not enough in today situation.
A more systematic vocational training is needed and for this we are in dialogue with the Xavier Institute of Polytechnic and Technology for initiating short vocational training courses.
Dear Friends, we wish all of you a very Happy New Year and pray and hope that 2016 may be a year of peace, joy and harmony between all people and nations
